This 3-night / 4-day Swiss rail itinerary connects Chur, the Bernina Express, Lugano and Lucerne. It combines the UNESCO-listed Bernina railway route with the contrasting Alpine scenery of high glaciers and the palm-filled landscapes of Ticino, followed by time in Lucerne.
Begin in Chur, Switzerland’s oldest city, before travelling on the Bernina Express through dramatic mountain scenery. The journey crosses the Alps on the UNESCO World Heritage route and continues south toward Tirano.
After an optional lunch break in Tirano, continue by Bernina Express coach to Lugano in beautiful Ticino. The following day, travel onward to Lucerne through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, with the optional Gotthard Panorama Express available as an upgrade.
Use your leisure time in Lucerne to explore the historic old town, Chapel Bridge, Lake Lucerne and surrounding attractions.

The train takes you to Tirano, where you can enjoy an optional lunch break, before continuing by Bernina Express coach to Lugano in beautiful Ticino.
Breakfast at the hotel. Train journey from Lugano to Lucerne. Experience the Gotthard Base Tunnel, which runs 57 kilometres through the Alpine massif. The journey through the base tunnel takes around 17 minutes. An optional Gotthard Panorama Express journey can be added. Rest of the day at leisure.
