Best Time to Visit Iceland

Iceland is a genuine year-round destination — summer brings near-endless daylight and full road access, while winter brings the Northern Lights and a snow-covered landscape.

SeasonMonthsWeatherWhy go
SummerJun – AugMild 10–15°C, near-midnight sunBest for road trips, hiking & full daylight sightseeing
AutumnSep – OctCool 5–10°CFirst Northern Lights sightings, quieter South Coast
WinterNov – FebCold -2–3°C, short daysPeak Northern Lights season, ice caves, snowy landscapes
SpringMar – MayMild 2–8°CLengthening days, waterfalls swollen with snowmelt

Jun–Aug Best for road trips

Near-endless daylight makes this the prime season for the full Ring Road, hiking, and reaching every corner of the South Coast in comfort.

Sep–Mar Northern Lights

Dark skies and frequent clear nights make this the best window for aurora hunting, with peak activity typically around the equinoxes.

Dec–Feb Winter wonderland

Many travellers love Iceland's deep winter — ice caves, snow-covered waterfalls, and cosy geothermal pools under the aurora.

Entry made easy

Schengen Visa for UAE Residents

Iceland is part of the Schengen Area through the EFTA agreement, so most nationalities living in the UAE need a Schengen visa before flying, which also allows onward travel within the wider Schengen Area during the same trip. We guide you through the exact requirements for your nationality.

🛂 Schengen visa

Most UAE residents need a short-stay Schengen visa in advance. UAE nationals may have different requirements depending on passport type.

✈️ Flight time from UAE

Flights from Dubai to Reykjavik typically take around 10 to 12 hours including a stopover. Iceland is 3 hours behind UAE time year-round (Iceland does not observe daylight saving).

💱 Currency

Iceland uses the Icelandic Króna (ISK), not the Euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, including for very small purchases.

🍽 Halal food

Halal options are limited outside Reykjavik, though the capital has a small but growing number of halal-friendly restaurants.

🧳 We recommend applying for your Schengen visa several weeks before departure. Passport valid 6+ months beyond your travel dates is advised, along with proof of accommodation and return flights.

Visa rules differ by nationality and can change. Entry is at the sole discretion of Icelandic and Schengen immigration authorities. We confirm current requirements for your passport before you travel.
