Italy Classic — 7-Day Itinerary

Here's how your 6-night Italy trip flows. Flights, 3★/4★ hotels, airport transfers and guided touring by coach with an English-speaking guide are included throughout.

DAY1

Welcome to Rome Included

Land in Rome, where our representative meets you and takes you to your hotel. Check in, freshen up and relax — at reception you'll find an information board with your guide's name, meeting point and start time for tomorrow. Overnight in Rome.

DAY2

Rome City Tour & Evening in Trastevere Included

Discover the Eternal City on a guided tour of Rome's landmarks, continuing into the Vatican to visit:

  • St Peter's Basilica — and, time permitting, the Vatican Museums.
  • St Peter's Square — marvel at the art, the colonnades and the spiritual setting.

In the evening we transfer you to lively Trastevere, known for its trattorias and cobbled lanes — perfect for dinner and a stroll. Overnight in Rome.

DAY3

Rome at Leisure Included

After breakfast, shape the day your way — see the Colosseum and Roman Forum, toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain, or sip espresso in a sunny piazza. Shop, wander and taste gelato before heading back. Overnight in Rome.

DAY4

Rome → Florence & Piazzale Michelangelo Included

Travel north to Florence through rolling hills and vineyards. On arrival, head straight to Piazzale Michelangelo for panoramic views of the Duomo, the Arno and terracotta roofs, then walk the historic centre with a local expert:

  • Ponte Vecchio & Piazza della Signoria — Florence's iconic bridge and main square.
  • Artisan streets — browse markets, boutiques or a museum in the afternoon.

Overnight in Florence.

DAY5

Florence → Pisa → Cinque Terre → Genoa Included

Board a small tourist train to the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa (UNESCO) to admire the Leaning Tower, Cathedral and Baptistery. Continue to the Ligurian Coast and enter Cinque Terre (UNESCO):

  • Vernazza — reached by local train, with harbour views and the 1318 Church of Santa Margherita overlooking the sea.
  • Levanto — where your coach meets you for the drive on to Genoa.

Overnight in Genoa.

Note: the Cinque Terre train is a standard local service without seat reservations; at busy times you may stand.
DAY6

Genoa → Portofino → Milan Included

Travel to Santa Margherita Ligure and continue by boat to Portofino — a chic harbour ringed by pastel houses, with time to stroll, shop and relax. Later, drive to Milan, Italy's style capital, and admire its cathedral and elegant streets. Overnight in Milan.

Note: in winter or during rough seas, the Portofino boat may not run; you'll reach Portofino by local microbus instead, which can involve waits.
DAY7

Departure from Milan

After a hearty breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home — with photos, flavours and memories from Rome's ancient stones to Milan's modern spark.

Best Time to Visit Italy

Italy is a year-round destination, but the sweet spot is spring and early autumn — mild weather, fewer crowds and Tuscany's countryside at its greenest. Summer is high season on the coasts, while winter is ideal for lower prices and quieter museums.

SeasonMonthsWeatherWhy go
SpringApr – JunMild 15–24°C, occasional rainBest overall — Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre & Milan at their finest
SummerJul – AugHot 28–34°C, coastal breezesLong days on the Riviera; expect peak crowds & prices
AutumnSep – OctMild 16–25°C, golden lightGrape harvest season, fewer crowds, warm coastal waters
WinterNov – MarCool 5–14°C, occasional rain/snow inlandLowest prices; quiet museums & festive city lights

Apr–Jun Best

The sweet spot for the classic route: mild days for walking tours in Rome and Florence, and the Cinque Terre trails at their greenest before the summer crowds.

Jul–Aug Peak season

If beaches and the Riviera are your priority, this is when the coast is liveliest — expect warmer waters in Portofino and Cinque Terre, plus busier sights.

Sep–Oct Local favourite

Many travellers rate autumn as Italy's best-kept secret — comfortable temperatures, harvest season in Tuscany, and noticeably shorter queues at major sights.
