Best Time to Visit Oman

Oman rewards a cooler-season visit for Muscat, Nizwa and the desert, while Salalah flips the calendar — its lush Khareef season runs through the summer, when the rest of the Gulf is at its hottest.

SeasonMonthsWeatherWhy go
Muscat & north — cool seasonOct – AprWarm 22–30°C, comfortable for touringBest overall — Muscat, Nizwa, Jabal Akhdar & Wahiba Sands at their finest
Muscat & north — summerMay – SepHot 35–42°C, very warm inlandLower prices; early-morning or hotel-based itineraries recommended
Salalah Khareef seasonJun – SepMild 24–28°C, misty & greenBest for Salalah — waterfalls, fog and lush hillsides while the rest of the Gulf swelters
Salalah — dry seasonOct – MayWarm 25–32°C, dry and sunnyQuieter beaches and frankincense sites without the Khareef crowds

Oct–Apr Best for Muscat

The sweet spot for the classic route: comfortable temperatures for the Grand Mosque, Muttrah Souq, Nizwa's forts and the Wahiba Sands desert camp.

Jun–Sep Best for Salalah

While Muscat is at its hottest, Salalah's Khareef season brings monsoon mist, waterfalls and green hillsides — a completely different side of Oman.

Wadi Shab & wadis Year-round

The wadis stay swimmable most of the year, though cooler months make the walk in and out far more comfortable.

Entry made easy

Oman Visa for UAE Residents

UAE nationals and other GCC citizens can travel to Oman visa-free. Other UAE residents can generally apply for an Oman eVisa online, and travellers in select approved professions may qualify for a fast unsponsored GCC-resident eVisa or visa on arrival. We guide you through the exact steps for your passport and residency.

🛂 eVisa & visa on arrival

Most UAE residents apply for an Oman eVisa online in advance. Some professions and passports may qualify for visa on arrival at Muscat, Salalah or Sohar airports, or at land borders.

✈️ Flight time from UAE

Direct flights from Dubai to Muscat take around 1 hour. Oman is in the same time zone as the UAE.

🚗 Self-drive from Dubai

Many travellers also road-trip to Oman via the Hatta or Al Ain border crossings — you'll need valid car insurance for Oman and your vehicle registration documents.

💱 Currency

The Omani Rial (OMR) is the official currency. Cards are widely accepted in Muscat, but carry cash for souks and rural areas.

🧳 We recommend applying for your eVisa a few days before departure. Passport and UAE residence visa valid 6+ months beyond your travel dates is advised.

Visa rules differ by nationality and profession, and can change. Entry is at the sole discretion of Omani immigration. We confirm current requirements for your passport before you travel.
