A full day exploring the southern coast:

Sri Lanka is a year-round tropical destination — the nuance is which coast you're visiting. The west and south coasts (Colombo, Kandy, Bentota, Galle) are driest from December to March. The east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) has its own dry season from April to September, so there's rarely a bad time to go.
| Season | Months | Weather | Why go |
|---|---|---|---|
| West & south coast dry | Dec – Mar | Warm 27–31°C, driest & sunniest | Best overall — Colombo, Kandy, Bentota & Galle at their finest |
| Shoulder season | Apr – Jun | Warm & humid, occasional showers | Fewer crowds, good value, hill country still cool |
| East coast dry | Apr – Sep | Warm 28–32°C, calm seas on the east | Best for Trincomalee & Arugam Bay surf |
| Southwest monsoon | Jul – Sep | Wetter on the west & south coasts | Lowest prices; hill country & east coast unaffected |
The sweet spot for the classic route: driest, sunniest weather for Colombo, Kandy, Bentota and Galle. Ideal for beach time and sightseeing alike.
If Trincomalee or Arugam Bay are on your list, this is their dry season — while the west coast sees its own rains. Sri Lanka's two coasts balance each other out.
The hill country sits at altitude, so it stays cool and misty whenever you visit — a refreshing contrast to the coastal heat, any time of year.
Most nationalities, including UAE residents and citizens, need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before flying to Sri Lanka. It's a short online form, approval is usually fast, and we guide you through the exact steps for your passport.
Most foreign nationals, including UAE residents, must obtain an ETA online in advance via the official government portal. There is no visa-on-arrival for most nationalities.
